Jump in. The water’s fine.

Welcome aboard and I hope you enjoy your time at my new home on the web.

I created my first website back in 1995 or 1996 (http://op.net/~jester). At the time, the web was a new phenomenon for most of us and Netscape had just introduced background graphics in HTML. I had only recently gotten myself out of the mess that AOL had become and was quite excited for these 5 MB of space on my very own shell account. After spending hours crafting the perfect background (a grey textured and embossed ‘JS’) and designing the basic layout of the site, I realized I had absolutely nothing to say. The site went through several other iterations – including a time when it was mostly a joke page regarding self promotion – until I let it die and walked away from my own presence on the world wide web.

Fast forward to the present day and these daily web logs are all the rage. While I’ve owned skaroff.com for years now, I’ve never made anything happen with it. When I google for my name I get a random collection of links and postings about me, but nothing that really says who I am. This blog is an attempt to remedy that. Here you’ll find my thoughts on politics and culture, mp3s and links to great music and great bands, pictures of the newest coolest gadgets, links to other blogs and postings I find interest, and a general mishmash of the miscellanea that makes up my life. Come early and come often…

Since it is Friday, I’m going to join in the latest trend of Friday Cat Blogging and introduce my cat, Hendrix. He’s a bastard:

Hendrix, the cat
