A new Day. A new DA.

March 29th, 2005 by Josh

Welcome to Philadelphia, a city with heart and spirit, but beset by many problems. One of the areas of city government that has been least responsive to the needs of the citizens and least effective has been Lynne Abraham and the District Attorney’s office. LA seemingly has a lock on the labor organizations and other Democratic groups that are essential to win in this city. However, for the first time that I can remember since I’ve been living here and voting, there seems to be a genuine alternative candidate: Seth Williams

A lifelong Philadelphia resident, Seth Williams knows first-hand the problems facing our city, and has the vision and strength of character to solve them…

Growing up in the Cobbs Creek section of the city, Seth attended Friends’ Central and graduated from Central High in 1985. Elected President of the Student Government and the Black Caucus at Penn State University, He graduated in 1989. He was awarded his law degree, with distinction as a Public Interest Law Scholar, at the Georgetown University Law Center…

Seth holds the rank of Captain in the United States Army Reserves, Judge Advocate General Corps. As a member of the military’s law firm, his responsibilities include ensuring the ethics and accountability of our armed forces serving overseas, qualities he is determined to restore in Philadelphia’s justice system.

Above all else, Seth is a father determined to make our neighborhoods safer and stronger for future generations of Philadelphians.

And unlike Lynne Abraham he does not think that the death penalty is always the best approach. I like this guy…

It’s remarkable that the weekly magazine’s local coverage is often much better than the Inky or the Daily News. I’m not sure if it was the PW article or an ad that made me first take notice of Seth Williams but he really seems to have some promise.
