sex lies and videofiles

For quite a while now on the web, Google has set the standard for usability, functionality, and just plain likability as an Internet company. The search engine has been consistently the best on the web for most of 5 years now and they are THE company, besides Yahoo, that truly showed the viability of online ad revenue as a successful business model. Though they’ve somewhat butchered the Usenet archives recently, new products like Gmail and Google Maps (or do you prefer it by satellite?) have shown them to be a forward thinking company, pushing the bar both in ideas and technology. Some other fun tools: Suggest, SMS (just send a text to GOOGL with your query), or Movie (google for ‘movie: YourZipCode’ and get showtimes.) And I could not work without the Toolbar.

Today they unveiled the Google Video Upload Program. They’ve had Google Video up and running for a while now – searching through the closed caption transcripts of recent broadcast television shows and giving you screen captures for video frames that match your query. Now they’ll allow you to upload your own videos to them of “any length and size.” As long as you own the video, you can put it online for free, and in fact get paid if your file is downloaded often. PVRBlog has a breakdown with screenshots.

Imagine seeing source video of news events right after they happen. Or video podcasting. We’re reaching a tipping point of a world-altering level of information ubiquity and freedom.
