June 6th, 2005 by JoshScott reminded me that tonight is the season premiere of the final season of HBO’s Six Feet Under. As much of my demographic has done over the past few years, I get most of my original drama and comedy fare from HBO and other cable outlets these days. While I’m sure I’ve missed some quality shows on the broadcast networks over the past few years, I’ve found Six Feet Under to consistently be the best show on television. Right from the start the writing has been fresh and original, the characters have been painfully realistic, and the show has had the most interesting plot of anything out there. It’s a sad and wonderful thing. I literally get upset for an entire week sometimes between shows because I so strongly identify with Nate.
Rent it on DVD or check it out on your OnDemand and watch this season. HBO at 9 pm tonight.

What did you think? I wasn’t too impressed with the premiere, though it wasn’t bad. I guess after such a long time off, I just expect it to be great.

I really enjoyed it. Nothing big happened plot-wise but the emotional status of the characters is so different now. I thought the scene between Lisa and Brenda was especially well done and I loved the dinner and smoking scenes with all the couples. I feel bad for Ruth though. This is the final season and I think they set themselves up well for some great stuff to finish the show off.
Is there anything on TV with a higher level of emotional realism?

Emotional realism? Probably not.

By the way, I hate the Eagles.

Jacksonville right? I’d probably hate greatness too if I was forced to live down there.

Well, I live in Jacksonville, but I think it would be hard to develop a healthy hatred of Philadelphia with ony that to draw from. So you should be careful how you throw that greatness around, since my team has been to 6 more SuperBowls than Philly and won five more. I was rooting for them representing the NFC East when they were here in February, though. I went downtown on Saturday, and it seemed that the Eagles fans outnumbered the Patriots by at least 5 to 1. Unfortuantely, the outcome wasn’t what I’d hoped.
