Our Brand is Crisis

Ok, this is my first post on the Skaroff.blogspot.hebrew.sosupple.blogspot.org and I felt compelled to do so because of a movie that I just saw. It’s called “Our Brand is Crisis” and it is essentially the “War Room” of 2005.

The movie is about a group of American political consultants (Shrum, Tad Devine, Jeremy Rosner, James Carville, Stan Greenberg, etc.) who go down to Bolivia to work for “Goni”- the progressive candidate running for President in the 11-way 2002 elections.

They essentially “Americanize” the election in Bolivia (polls, focus groups, attack ads, large-scale rallies) and create a heavily divided population (a la Karl Rove) that, for better or worse, puts them in a position to win.

If you are a political junkie or have an interest in how elections are run, this is a fascinating commentary for you to see. Not only does the movie hightlight how elections are run- but it addresses what can happen after the voting is over and a camera-friendly, sound-byte driven candidate becomes a leader and is forced to actually govern over a country that’s been put through so much.

Really great movie. I’m not sure if it’s opening in regular theaters, but it’s being featured at film festivals all over the country. Check it out.

Love,
Matt
