Science and Progress

In this corporate medical world we live in, surgery can be one of the most private things a person will experience. Be it life sustaining heart repair surgery, psyche repairing cosmetic facial surgery, or acutely crucial organ transplant surgery, most of us wouldn’t like to talk about the dangerous procedure we were about to undergo. Well Rutgers grad student David LaPuma hasn’t been taking that approach. He’s been documenting through his blog and photos his surgery to remove a benign meningioma from his brain. Via BoingBoing:

I guess putting it all on(the)line was partially my way of dealing with it, and also a way that I could share the experience with both the people I know and those I don’t know (but who might be considering a similar procedure). The whole experience has been quite amazing, and I really feel fortunate to be recovering so quickly.

If you’ve got the stomach and the curiosity for it, go check out David’s remarkable photoset documenting the surgery. WARNING: Contains graphic images.
