Must T.O. Go?
August 13th, 2005 by JoshHere at SkaroffBlog we bleed Eagles green. I for one am a big Sixers fan (we’ll miss you dearly A Mc), would love to be able to root for the Phillies if they ever had any hope, and am looking forward to getting into a Flyers team that could threaten this year. But it’s the Birds that I look forward to whenever they’re off and occupy much of my time from Sunday to Sunday during the regular season. I’ve actually sworn off hosting a potential Super Bowl party this year because last year’s was such an overly intense roller coaster of emotion.
The Payoff Pitch over at the The Sports Blog has a nice post that sums up my feelings of anger that this summer’s Terrell Owens soap opera has produced. He says about our star receiver:
His name is Terrell Owens, and yes, he is one of the best receivers in NFL football. He’s a machine, chiseled from what ancient artists sculpted the ultimate male form to display, made for the game of football — sleak, fast, dominating. I have a message for the Eagles brass: get rid of him. Allow the door to kick him in his proverbial ass. See ya. Take it lite. Tell him to shut the hell up, pack up his S and his BS and leave Philly in a trail of dust.
What he doesn’t address is the level of consternation that all this, combined with injuries is bringing to Iggles Nation. I’m not yet ready to completely write off Owens, especially after ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio reported this afternoon that Brian Dawkins and Jeremiah Trotter are attempting to “broker a detente” behind the scenes between both T.O. and the Eagles and T.O. and McNabb. He cannot be allowed to sabotage the Eagles and the city of Philadelphia over the course of the season. But at the same time, without Owens, on paper this team is simply not as good as the Super Bowl team of last year.
So where do we go from here? I don’t know and I’m guessing no one will know anything more until T.O.’s scheduled return to camp next Wednesday.
I still have faith in Andy and Donovan.

The sad fact of the matter is this: the Eagles are toast without TO. More sad facts: D Mac is a great leader but a mediocre (at best) qback. TO, sans his pimp agent and his ego, could potentially be as good as if not better than Jerry Rice. Furthermore, I am a better wide receiver than the dregs we’re left with at the moment (I could have said the same prior to Pink’s injury……he’s a pussy. And I’m a female, just for the record).
Bottom line: without TO even a Wildcard looks iffy.

I’m guessing…Cowboys fan?
Go to 4 NFC championships and a Super Bowl and then I’ll tell you your quarterback is mediocre. Or just have the best winning percentage in the past 5 years.

Actually, I am an Eagles fan. I do not doubt the heart of D Mac, nor do I doubt either his scrambling and leadership fortes. However as a ‘true’ passer do you really think he’ll be remembered among the Montanas and Elways of the past?

There are a lot more ways to win football games than only following the narrow definition of a “true” pocket passer.
2004:
3875 yards
64.0% pass completion
31 TDs
104.7 QB Rating
Look, the bottom line is that we’re paying #5 a ton of money for a long, long time. If we’re gonna win, it’s gonna be on his shoulders. So I for one will try and be positive, support our boy, and trust in the future.

Agreed….although I’m not driving, I’m on the positive bus with you. Nice to see that TO played well with others today. And kudos to Dawk for being an ultra-professional.
