War

The President says he must ‘go one with life’ which means further ignoring Cindy Sheehan and her band of peaceful protesters:

Bush’s Saturday schedule included an evening Little League Baseball playoff game, a lunch meeting with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, a nap, some fishing and some reading. “I think the people want the president to be in a position to make good, crisp decisions and to stay healthy,” he said when asked about bike riding while a grieving mom wanted to speak with him. “And part of my being is to be outside exercising.”

I think Billmon puts it best when he says, “At this point, to call the Commander in Chief detached from reality would be an insult to paranoid schizophrenics everywhere.”

Meanwhile Frank Rich continues to be virtually the only mainstream media columnist willing to tell it how it is to W and his cronies. He addresses the recent attempt to re-brand the war as the “Global Struggle Against Violent Extremism:”

A struggle is what you have with your landlord. When the war’s über-managers start using euphemisms for a conflict this lethal, it’s a clear sign that the battle to keep the Iraq war afloat with the American public is lost.

Finally, Bob Herbert – and last night’s Six Feet Under – make sure that we cannot ignore the human victims of this horrible war.

25,000
civilians have been killed. 1,852 American men and women have died. And there is no end in sight.
