No Breeders Wanted

This is one I would love to laugh about if it wasn’t so deeply disturbing. Or maybe Republicans in Indiana just have a hell of a sense of humor. Via Kos diary:

Republican lawmakers are drafting new legislation that will make marriage a requirement for motherhood in the state of Indiana, including specific criminal penalties for unmarried women who do become pregnant “by means other than sexual intercourse.”

As it the draft of the new law reads now, an intended parent “who knowingly or willingly participates in an artificial reproduction procedure” without court approval, “commits unauthorized reproduction, a Class B misdemeanor.” The criminal charges will be
the same for physicians who commit “unauthorized practice of artificial reproduction.”

I don’t even understand who they’re trying to screw over here. Reproducing lesbians? Evangelicals who have trouble getting pregnant? Their own electoral vote count? I would love to see the legal pretzel Scalia would twist himself into to rule in favor of this potential law.

Pandagon responds “Put down that turkey baster and put your hands in the air so I can see your wedding ring.”
