Hmm…Pi

In May 2003, Dr. Clifford Pickover, an author and editor with a PhD from Yale offered to his discussion group a fascinating concept regarding Pi.
“Somewhere inside the digits of pi is a representation for all of us — the atomic coordinates of all our atoms, our genetic code, all our thoughts, all our memories. Given this fact, all of us are alive, and hopefully happy, in pi. Pi makes us live forever. We all lead virtual lives in pi. We are immortal.”
The basic concept is that deep within the infinite length of the non-repeating irrational pi there exists every single numeric string possible. After 3.1415926535 there could very well be my phone number. It is never ending, and ultimately, any data in the universe, including our genes, or our thoughts, or simply the molecular make up of our bodies could be encoded and represented by a series of unique digits. And these numbers must exist somewhere in Pi! In the digits of Pi exists the Oxford English Dictionary, Windows XP, and every post on this blog. Could Pi be the answer to life, the universe, and everything?
Pretty cool stuff that is thoroughly discussed over at We are in Digits of Pi and Live Forever. Who says math isn’t cool?

Interesting. Could this also means that within pi must also be…pi? And within that pi must be another pi. And so on. However, wouldn’t that make pi, in essence, sometbing other than a non-repeating irrational number? Curiouser and curiouser.
